Lake Texoma Fishing Report

Fishing report: December 13, 2009: The fishing is still great but bait in my area is mostly non-existent. I have traveled some l hour to find it for my pending fishing trips. We have been anchoring on a ledge, 47-55 feet. and fish stayed with us, til we limited, and then burned bait, staying out on the water for the enjoyment of it. Big fish are skinny, but the combinations of fish, giving lots of filets, to take home. The weather was cold this week, but the weekend turned out nice. Believe this Winter will be good all way to Spring. I am going to take a break for few weeks, hopefully going to see my grandkids in California . Good fishing.......JD

Fishing report: November 29, 2009: Super to behold! If you get a glance of the latest pictures you will see a couple kids and their mom, learning the skills of striper fishing at its best. They had never fished before, but became pros before the trip was completed. I taught them the fundamental and they did the rest. The fish are much much better with fish healthy, fat, and fighting their best. We caught all our over twenty inch fish, and good box fish for our limit. I need more trips with the good weather we are having, so call for your trip of a life time on Lake Texoma, Giant Fish on a Big Lake.....Enjoy the kids in action ."JD"

Fishing report: November 24, 2009: Wellll.. the last few days have been remarkable to say the least. Beautiful days, foggy mornings, little wind, but nothing to interfere with the fishing results. I have been doing a lots of C&L and BB, taking only those fish which have lots of meat, but still not on the water for a long time. My ole friends from Amarillo got the royal treatment, since they fish with me so often and we were out past noon for the first time in some time. Other customers wanted to go on a boat ride after fishing so I spun around a little and went in, as it usually takes some time to clean fish and bag them, and get ready for the next trip, so at my age (68) I have to get my beauty rest as much as I can. lol. The larger fish, most are skinny, but every now and then you can get one that has lots of bulk and meat. Our catches were the usual, all overs (20 inch fish) even with the choices of fish, but there are always the hook-swallowers which we have to keep, and regardless, all the fish are great fighters, and a pleasure to catch. I usually do not get as many pictures as I should, but my friend, helper, and fishing buddy, David Riha, always the expert, later sends me pictures I fail to get, during a trip. David was with me when we went to get bait in the thick fog couple of morning ago, and I learned later he was as scared as I was, and I was waiting for him to chicken out. The pictures I have to post now, are some of the past few days, so please enjoy...

Fishing report: November 4, 2009: Lake Texoma is beutiful these days, with the water temp at 67; levels at 620.53; gates closed; sunrise, 6:49a and sunset 5:31p. We are catching our limits each trip, with fish gradually getting bigger, but still somewhat skinny. Trying to depart right at sunrise, hitting a few banks with artificial, for trophy fish, and cheching some jug lines for those customers who request juglines. Going to be on the windy side this weekend 15-25 winds, and hoping can get at point where wind is not a problem. I am still hoping for groups of 2-5 people on weekends so can go after trophy fish, using artificial, or large baits, as fishing is good and think a new record striper was caught just recently. My dream is to get someone that new record for striper on lake texoma. Attaching a couple of pictures of cats caught recently and stripers, which we are catching fast, and lost of catch and release til bait is gone. Call for bookings......903-786-3981 asap. "J.D."

Fishing report: October 24, 2009: Beautiful fall days!. (23rd) Fished large group out Grandpappy , limiting early with mixed large, small fish.. Evening trip 8 cats on jugs, largest to 22 lbs. Next morning, limited early, with big fish coming back with water temps coming down. Another big catfish, ending with a great mess of fish for this group from Dallas. Have a few days open so call, and lets go fishing.........I mean catching......"J.D."

Fishing report: October 21, 2009: Fishing has been very good, with lots of trips ending with lots of fish but stripers on the small size, with the big fish skinny. I have had lots of request for catfish juglines, which costs another $125, but harvesting lots of big fish. Last Sunday, we got a 46.9 blue; with ...21; 17: 12, etc. Good thing Lionel and his crew helped me clean them or we would have been cleaning all night. They and other groups, Chilli and Son from OKC, are coming back for more next month. If you are interested in booking with the added juglines, let me know as we are getting good fish. I will have pictures on next report, so stay tuned. Call for trips.....Here are a couple pictures on the water today. Rainy, cool, but good .....other pictures coming......"J.D."

Fishing report: October 15, 2009: Hello. This Fall has been started with lots of fish, but most on the small side. If you can do a little casting toward points, your chances are better for bigger fish. Large groups and numerous people make it a little hard to do this, so we are back anchoring, catching nice fish, but small. This will get better soon in time with the water temperature dropping. It is rainy, overcast, which makes good during the week for heading out for big fish. Weekends are busy but mostly booked right now. I have some fridays left and Saturday in November left, but looking to fine some good fishermen to get out and go with with me for a day of striper fishing, and a little jug lining on the side. Call for booking now. Here are a few pictures of days gone past....."J.D,"

Fishing report: September 7, 2009: Well we found the fishing a little slow this past week, but catching our limits, fish on the small side, but getting all overs...(20 inch fish) This Sunday was a blessing in its self. Our church pastor, pulled 11 (people) out of the water, baptising them, those who gave their life to Christ, and I had not seen anything like it before. I got pictures of it, just like I did if I had been fishing, and it was the most uplifting time I have spent on the water in some time. Great Job, Bro. Bobby. Bookings are picking up this month, and for October, so I ask you to call for your trip, last chance for 2009. "JD"

Fishing report: July 21, 2009: Good Days, and not so good days. Saturday evening was a disaster, too many boats, and when did get it going, boats ran through us, running everything away. Catching lots of big fish, but limits hard to come by, throwing big fish back. I have had some good customers the last week, not to say they all arent good customers, but in this heat, they have all stayed the course, and gotten a lot of good fish. Had been doing good in evening, but with recent rain, I like the morning right now. We have been starting at the dam, and working ourselves south, with good topwater action (smaller fish) and using slabs and some bait, bringing bigger fish.

Biggest this week was 15# striper, taken by Hannah Perez, with her mother Shawndell bringing in a 12. Other groups fishing with me came close. Riha group, who have fished with me for the past 12 years, did well Sunday morning getting all their over 20s in one shot at the dam. The 5 took turns mastering the topwater and slabs/bait well. It died off fast with the heat. They had good boxes both Saturday (morn) and Sunday. Business slowing down some now, so can rest my arthritic bones a little. With a couple days off I can regroup after a little r- e- s- t. Good fishing.....JD

Fishing report: July 5, 2009: With hot weather, and high water temperatures, the catching is becoming a check of talent, of my guests. Since the middle of June, each day is different, and more work at catching our limit, although big fish are no problem. There is absence of breeze which always hurts, and now top water and artificial baits an acute selection, top and deep. We are using pencil poppers, zaro spooks, etc., and color matters some times.

I arrived at a spot a couple days ago, and the fish started topping right where we were, which helped for about 10 minutes. I love to fish artificial, and a good thing as bait not that helpful right now for me. My customers are working hard in hot weather, and are the greatest, standing up under pressure of getting our limit. We are now leaving the dock at 5A, which gives us a couple hours of cool weather to work with. Its a lot of fun! Enjoy the pictures and come see me at Texoma and Little Mineral Resort. "JD"

Fishing report: June 1, 2009: Well some fish hitting top water now, and catching a few with slabs, so the artificial season will be upon us very soon. I am still using live bait, fishing the humps, and drops offs, catching good quality fish, all overs, (20 inch fish) and coming in with the best boxs, I have had in some time. I believe you could catch good stripers almost anywhere on Texoma. (if you know where to be)

June dates are scattered, giving me the chance to check with the US Coast Guard on new qualification for guides on Lake Texoma, and get boat inspected for requirements, and safety. Give me a call for a date to go fishing. "JD"

Fishing report: May 26, 2009: Have gotten a little behind with pictures and reports in May It has been incredible. Loads of fun, catching lots of fish; good large stripers, with plenty of fight.

Leaving the docks at 6:30am and sometimes back fast with 40-50- and yes 60 fish, by 8am. This does not include the number of fish caught and released, before bait runs out. Plenty of happy people, large groups, all limiting, with their promises to return soon. Names like Gabennnesch. Hoehman, Adair, McGarrah, Mechanical Paetners, Nuckols, Murphy, Prestonwood, etc. Can't get any better than this, even with the high water, and rains during the period. God is good. Lots of good days still open in June. "JD"

Fishing report: May 15, 2009: Fishing is good even with the high water problem here at Texoma. I am fishing in about 43 foot of water, at a location I have sat on for a week, catching good fish, some hook swallers, and all over 20's, largest around 8-9 lbs, thusfar.

My over 20 inch fish, all in the 7-9 lbs as using big baits, which they cause a real fight, so prepare to "hang-0n". No Saturdays til last June, but some Sundays, and weekday are open and they are a little less expensive. Give me a call. JD

Fishing report: May 4, 2009: Fishing has been great, with limits everyday, big fish, and great time. We have had lots or rain, and lake is up. Some Marinas are closed for high water, but we are ok right now. The water is murky, but does not affect the bite. Fishing doubles everyday. Bait tough but I am doing ok, ole man, up and early before the young'ens. Have some Sundays open so call, I want to fish, while it is so great. Catching fish on bait, and slabs so good fun. We caught 60 fish and done before 9am for 6 man group from my neighborhood, Pampa Texas. I have had some good fishermen, made some good friends, and couldn't be happier right now, so come on down! "JD"

Fishing report: April 19, 2009: Spent yesterday in church, and was glad to have a day off. The fishing has been somewhat better, actually catching big fish...the 7's, up to 15 lbs drifting big baits, but some diffictulty getting limits, with weather changes, and fronts moving in and out. The last week or so, it was really cold in the mornings, but wind has let down a little., sometimes little too much. The water temp is gradually risiing, there are getting to be more boats out, and looks like season is upon us. I have been asked to post a picture of my boat on the front of my website. I will get them on as well as some pictures of past fishing, to be posted as soon as I can get them updated.....Have a good one...."JD"

Fishing report: April 8, 2009: Fished a double this weekend, and did good although was only able to get in one place that wasn't dangerously rough from the high winds. Did fairly well with the Ferguson group of Dallas, and the Gunsell group from Wichita Kansas, although we were limited to back of Simmons Cove, long-lining. Both groups were good fishermen (and one fisherwoman) and understood the conditions, limitations, and made the best of a very nice outing. Fish were good sized, runnning up to 5-6 pounds, healthy and fat. Excellent fights. "JD"

Fishing report: March 20, 2009: Fishing early March: Fishing has been really unpredictable, and I dont care what you read or hear, its a little tough at times. I have fished with live bait, but my best results are with long lining. We have caught good quality, and our limits long lining, and I have observed other guides struggling with live bait. It is early in the season, with only fishing to get better as the weather warms.

Enjoy the pictures and call for a charter. All weekend are gone, mostly, so weekedays will have to be considered. "JD"

Fishing report: March 9, 2009: Spring has started off with a bang. I have been fishing doubles, and catching limits on both morning and evening trips. Bait is easy if you know where to go. I have a few dates left during spring break, so time to call, as time is RIGHT. Looks like its going to be a great year on Lake Texoma. Call: 903-786-3981 asap....."JD"
