2005 Lake Texoma Fishing Reports
Fishing report: December 9, 2005
Fishing reports: Too cold for this ole man, and I have dedicated my time to preparing for the fishing shows.
I look to make the Arlington Show in January (5th), and from there, possibly Amarillo, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and home.
Hope to see all my friends there, or start to make those reservations for a trip in 2006....Happy Holidays....JD
Fishing report: November 25, 2005
I have had such a great time on the lake during November, and enjoyed myself
with the customers, I feel compelled to try it again, again, and again.
I had intended to retire entirely, but now changed my mind. During the
fall the groups I have fished during this year, have began with cooking out,
a few cards, and the next day, a day of plenty of fish to keep everyone busy,
a great time for all. The fish on the most part part have been a little
small, but getting most of our over "twenties" fish. I am enjoying myself,
I have decided to work on my business again, do a few shows, and work thru
my retirement, keeping in shape, and enjoying what I love most...Fishing....
The spring fishing was great, and lasted thru the summer all the way thru
the fall, and I love the Eisenhower Dam end of the lake, and will do it,
I guess til I drop. I lost my wonderful fishing buddy, friend, lover, and
future wife, Judy, during October, and need the wonderful reminders of the
outdoors, and Lake Texoma, to carry me through, as I suffered a terrible
loss with her death of lung surgery. Anyway, see ya at the shows, on the
internet, hoping we can share a few good times at Texoma, fishing for the
numerous striper, which has made my living for the past 12 years....Thanks
to my good friend, Gary Winters, who has kept me posted on the website, at
a very nominal fee, and support after my loss....I hope to see ya soon....Good
Fishing....JD
Fishing report: October 31, 2005:
Sorry to not have been on the water, but lost my fishing buddy Judy Carroll, to lung reduction surgery, this date.
She wanted a better quality of life, with COPD, and God had other plans, so I lost her, to a higher power, and
although I know she was sometimes happy with me, she's in a better place now....Good Fishing......JD
Fishing report: October 14-15, 2005:
Fishing is right on line with this fall. Sorry failed to send earlier
reports, but caught up in helping girl friend survive a lung surgery....but
back to guiding at Texoma. These latest days were very fun, catching lots
of good fish....Saturday being a 50 fish by 10a trip, and all present were
happy, especially since there were about 1/2 this many threw back, during
the flurries. Come see me, and God Bless....JD
Fishing report: July 22, 2005:
Well, as usual the tactics have reverted back to live bait. The fish are holding good, and we
are getting limits of good fish, with all the over 20's, in the mess. We had no wall mounters in the last couple trips,
but when you catching fish as fast as we are, then its a good consolation. Well be getting some pictures posted
soon, so in the mean time if you want to fish, give me a call.... 903-624-1609......JD
Fishing report: June 2005:
Hot! I have not gotten any pictures posted, so come on all those customers
who had more time than me to take pictures, get them back to me for publications
on this site. I had been fishing with artificial (mainly cause I like
this better) with bait as a back up. Schools of fish were scattered, and
we were in the chase. With it so hot, there was a narrow window for getting
limits. Mark Hadley, Steve Klein, and I struggled one of those days,
but this group likes the hunt, and would'nt like it to be easy! We caught
big fish until the wind died, as well as the bite. Paula Lang, and her
family, spent the holidays on the water with me, the last of June, and got
a lot of fish, almost a lake record, "yes, we saw it", but that will keep
them coming back. Jim Hobbs and friend, spent two days on the water, dodgeing
storms, and ened up with a "wall mounter". Most of the trips lately have
been a combination of top water, and spoons. I like this end of the lake,
around the Dam, as it has lots of big fish, sometimes too many, and not enough
"box fish", but if it was perfect, everyone would be guiding. Jason Weniter,
with Texoma Ford, brought his large family, and if we had any more fish,
we would have been over the weight limit for my boat. Anyway I will try
and post some pictures soon, but regardless, remember this, even if you dont
see it, this Lake has the best chances of catching lots of fish, the best
fighters, and now's the time to get a chance at the real, "wall hangers"
Fishing report: May 25, 2005:
Riha group, out and ready again at 6:30a, as these "seniors were on time, and packed ready to go! We did not get our limit,
because of the incoming "front" but thankful for the "run" we had before it all shut off. "Dub" had to call friends
back home on the cell phone, and let them know what they were missing. Bob and "seniors" have been with
me, several times a year, for the past eight years.
Fishing report: May 24, 2005:
Bob Riha group of "seniors" had limits before 9am, but we stayed out for a little catch and release,
but it was slow, as early morning, have to get em quick, as they turn off when it starts getting hot.
Fishing report: May 23, 2005:
Evening trip, seemed to be better than early morning. We did not keep a limit for these three men
from Iowa, but threw back in excess of 42 fish, and left the fish biting. We pulled a 13# fish, making
my boat, winner of big fish for the trip. Lots of fish close though.
Fishing report: May 22nd and 23rd, 2005:
Had two boats out, got lots of fish for the Funk group, and a birthday party and song for "Garland" on the water.
Great group of fishermen, naturally as they are from where I was raised, Amarillo. Terry and the rest had fun
giving me the ole, High four and a half! Morning trips, lots of big fish, limits.
Fishing report: May 20, 2005:
Great day fishing with Jim Simon's group from Fort Worth. Caught so many fish, we were
worn out from the "fight". My boat looked like an arsenal of broken rods, messed up line,
but the reward was a great fishing day. We did not get the limit, as too many big fish,
thrown back, but we did what we set out to do, catch a lot of fish, and have a good time.
Fishing report: May 14, 2005:
My day in the barrel, with four boats out, and tied up third, I was in between fish,
during feeding frenzy, and missed out on "smoke". Had a double this day, and fished
evening with George Unsigner, out of the annex, west, and caught a 10 pounder,
several large fish, throwing back after meeting limit, and was the envy of many at the
cleaning docks. Beautiful day.
Fishing report: May 13, 2005:
Great fishing, all big fish, mountable 15 lbs caught by Trina, then winds got us, and got rough and tough.
Fishing report: May 5, 2005:
Fishing continues to be great, with the only problem that of getting any box fish.
We caught 15 keepers yesterday evening, the problem getting anything under the 20" slot.
We threw back some 10-15 fish because they were "too big", but less than mountable size.
It was all great fun, with perfect weather. Will have some pictures to post soon, on some
past trips. Tomorrow fishing out of Soldier Creek, with 6 people, so we should have plenty
of people to man all the rods, with the fast action. Have a great day.
Fishing report: April 24, 2005:
What a day! Most fun I've had in some time. The weather
was beautiful, perfect, and the fish were ready. Michael, Kevin, Joe, and Sam,
gathered a lot of boats around us, with their intense hollering, with the fish we were
catching. We bought in 30 fish, and by this time, they had had enough, and ready
to head home. The lake was beautiful, and I marked fish at several of my fishing
holes, but it took only one stop to get us in business. If the weather holds up, I
predict a great season, and am looking forward to every trip.
Fishing report: April 23, 2005:
Well it was a hard day, slow biting, but did get some good fish, but slightly under limit for four.
Looks like the upcoming front will play a little havoc, on any early quits, but expect nothing but
improvement, as it is fishing season. Winds have been high, and have to look for a little cover,
but the fish are still hungry, and ready to cooperate, if you like slow play.
Will see what tomorrow brings, and report later.
Fishing report: March 28, 2005:
After spending Easter in Amarillo Texas, with my grandchildren, I returned home ready
for the upcoming fishing season. I am glad I did not have any fishing trips, as it has rained
constantly here, and the wind is gusting. I checked out the lake, and it is murky on both inlets,
Red River, and Washita. I marked a lot of good fish on my graph, and they are now past the "cut",
and headed east, their usual paths this time of year. I see very few boats on the lake, and probably
because of the bad weather conditions. The fish are still not ready, its slow, and drifting seems to
do the best right now. I recommend getting your bookings in for April, as the season will be upon us,
and the fish will be hungry. I am donating some fish for a cook out, for a benefit for a lady quite ill,
without insurance, raising money to help her, so hope it goes well for her.
Fishing report: March 18, 2005:
Nice day, if you like gusts of 25-30, and cold temperatures, but this was not the only cold thing for this 5 man trip.
Had a great group, and we worked hard together, but all was the same as the day before, poor. The only enlightening
thing was that this family, three boys, and their parents, seemed to enjoy just being together, and were fishermen, and
knew this day was for fishing, and not catching. I have been fishing this family since, Creed was 7 and he's 15 now,
taller than me with a 10 shoe. Kyle the Dad, missed catching the lake record, and will never live it down. (lol) They
will be back in May also. This was somewhat typical of March, slow getting started, but later this month with warm
weather, and calmer winds, you can expect the usual....a box full of filets of stripers.
Fishing report: March 17, 2005:
Well the weatherman was right. Frost with temperatures around 32, 4AM. And here I am
on the front of a boat, casting for bait at that time. It was a success, about the only thing that went
well this day. Bait was tough, and it should have been an omen of what to expect this date. We worked
hard the west end of the lake, where the fish are, usually this time of the year. We marked lots of fish,
but none had their mouths open, and fishing was poor. We were able to pull few good fish, drifting, and I
could tell everyone on the lake was struggling. When things go this way, I usually give a discount on
another trip, (even though I had no control over it) and they booked it for May.
Fishing Report: March 16, 2005:
The fishing this date was a little worriesome, as fishing was poor until around 4 PM the usual quitting time,
unless limit is reached before then. I got into some good quality fish, leaving me with the feeling of knowing
where the fish would be for my trip out the following morning. (Wrong)
Fishing Report: March 1, 2005:
Well the phones are beginning to ring, booking trips for this Spring.
The fishing has been tough at times, and unbeliveable at others.
Fish boiling under birds. It is a little cold early so dress warm.
I am fishing with live bait, using some slabs at other times.
I have added some pictures to this site, enjoy, call for those better dates, and happy fishing.
Good Fishing.....JD
